SFSP - Returning Non-SFA Sponsors

**VERY IMPORTANT** ALL STEPS OF THE APPROVAL PROCESS MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO SERVING MEALS FOR REIMBURSEMENT.  MEALS SERVED WITHOUT FINAL WRITTEN APPROVAL (FROM THE STATE AGENCY) TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SFSP PROGRAM WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED.

There are 5 major steps needed to be approved and to begin operation of the program.  This approval process applies to Public or Private Non-Profit organizations that have not participated in the Summer Food Service Program under the NC Department of Public Instruction.

STEPSITEMS REQUIRED
1 Complete PRE-QUALIFICATION Packet
  • Gather required documents per the Checklist and complete all sections of the packet to support eligibility.
  • Submit the entire packet and Checklist per the timeline (located in packet) to the state agency.
  • After state agency review, correct any errors in the packet. Then resubmit the pre-qualification packet.
  • Wait to receive notice from your Summer Nutrition Consultant for instructions for the next step.
2 Complete ONLINE APPLICATION *IMPORTANT NOTE* Only Pre-Qualified Sponsors may begin the SFSP Online Application process.
3 Register and Attend REQUIRED ANNUAL CONTINUING EDUCATION
  • Returning sponsors must successfully complete step 1 to be invited to register and attend the Required Annual Continuing Education (RACE). To be announced.
4 Develop the SFSP SPONSOR ACTION PLAN
Next STEP to be announced.
5 FINAL STATE AGENCY APPROVAL CONGRATULATIONS!  Sponsor may begin to operate the Summer Food Service Program after final approval.  New sponsors will be notified of official approval via written Approval Letter.
