SFSP - Program Advocacy - Getting Involved

The objective of the Summer Food Service Program is to serve areas where low-income children reside, who are at risk for having inadequate nutrition during summer months and provide them with free, nutritious meals when school is not in session.

Summer meals are free to all kids who come to open summer meal sites. Anyone can locate free summer meals for children starting mid-MAY through the month of AUGUST.  Here are four ways to locate nearby summer meal sites in North Carolina:

Do your part to increase participation at local meal sites through outreach in local schools, faith-based organizations, businesses, and any place that families and children frequent in your community!

  • Contact for promotional materials
  • Become a meal site where children receive nutritious summer meals
  • Advertise meal site locations in schools before summer starts: Stuff book bags and take-home folders with promotional flyers
  • Partner with community stakeholders to help spread the word!
